Torqued up the main bearing caps, now that the right sized thrust washers have arrived. Everything spins freely, which is good as I didn't mark down which way around the caps went (important thing on these engines). Bolted on the crankshaft oil seal as well, but it's past midnight here so no more work today :( working for the next 5 days as well, so the pistons and conrods will have to wait.

So, I'm guessing, you've done this once or twice before, right?

Nope :) bit nervewracking until I got stuck in. I've done a decent amount of maintenance on my Alfa and other cars in the fleet, but never anything as in-depth as an engine rebuild.

I've got a Haynes manual, Google and a dad who's done engine rebuilds before giving the odd bit of advice.

Actually, the Haynes manual is a bit of a double-edged sword. It invented a set of spring-washers that go on the main bearing bolts, which understandably I didn't have. Took me a good 15 minutes of googling before I found a thread where someone had spotted this and confirmed that they didn't have spring washers as standard.

Haynes Book of Lies indeed :)

Please post one more picture. One of your complete garage! It must be epic, car-parts everywhere I look, the ultimate man-cave!

This is it at the moment. Bit messy as it's too small for all of the junk we've got :) here's a better view of the inside:

And here's the other side:

The garage at the old house was much nicer, although that was a little small as well.

However, we do have this little open-faced garage. It's only useful for storage at the moment, but we've got big plans :)

Kinja'd!!!

This is the other face of it, and the corner of the current garage. We're going to knock down the low garage and extend it to the fence behind and bring it flush to the front of the current garage. Pretty much tripling the size of it :)

Should be excellent :) however, we've got my sister's stables to finish building before that
